We meet on equal footing as friends, not as customers and service providers.

Casual yet meaningful interaction

Share stories, food, and laughter for 2 to 3 hours in a natural setting.

★★★★★
"Hatsumi and her family served the most delicious Japanese meal I've ever had — sushi, soba, mochi, homemade ice cream. We talked for hours about our lives and travels. My whole family agreed: this was the best experience of our two weeks in Japan."

"Our host collected us from the station, showed us a beautiful lookout, then welcomed us into her home. Over sashimi, sushi, and homemade crepe cake with plum wine, she shared stories about her family and life in Japan. This is what Japan is really about."

"Our six kids were folding origami together within minutes of arriving, laughing without sharing a single word of language. As a parent, watching that happen in a Japanese family's home in Chiba was the most special moment of our entire trip."

Rie's host family
From a host

"Becoming hosts is our way of giving back to the many locals who were kind to us abroad. This time we welcomed a family from Germany — we talked about cultural differences and child-rearing, and the kids had fun from start to finish."

Common questions

Everything you might
be wondering.

All host families are verified by our team before joining. You can also contact your host directly once your booking is complete, and our team is always available if you have any concerns.
All hosts are ready to welcome you in English! While proficiency levels may vary among family members, their warmth, gestures, and openness ensure smooth and genuine conversations.
Everyone is welcome! Whether you are a solo traveler, a couple, or traveling with children and grandparents, our hosts are excited to meet you.
We want everyone to enjoy authentic Japanese home dining safely. • Be specific — list your exact restrictions (e.g. no fish dashi) in your request. • Direct chat — discuss meal details directly with your host after matching. • Kitchen reality — meals are prepared in private kitchens, so a 100% cross-contamination-free environment cannot be guaranteed.
Absolutely. Founded in 2011 (formerly known as Nagomi Visit), we are a trusted cultural exchange program. Over the past 15 years, more than 11,000 international guests from 60+ countries have shared over 5,000 meals with our 400+ trusted host families across Japan.
We keep our pricing strictly fixed and transparent to prevent the guest-host dynamic from becoming a commercial transaction. • Adults (13 and over): 6,000 yen • Children (5–12): 4,000 yen • Infants (0–4): free Where the fee goes: half goes directly to your host to cover ingredients and preparation. The other half supports the operational costs of keeping the program running sustainably.
We do our best to find you the perfect match. Adding 3 or more available dates significantly increases your chances. If no host is available for your selected dates, we'll let you know promptly so you can adjust your request.
